The name “Korin” pays homage to Ogata Korin, a masterful painter from Japan’s Edo period. The Rinpa school, originally established by Honami Koetsu and Tawaraya Sotatsu, flourished under the influence of Korin and his brother Kenzan, blending the boundaries of fine art and functional design. Renowned contemporary artist Takashi Murakami celebrates this legacy through his “Korin” series, inspired by Ogata Korin’s iconic chrysanthemum fan designs. Murakami, who describes the Rinpa school as a cornerstone of the SUPER FLAT aesthetic he champions, has fittingly titled the series “Hokkyo Korin,” continuing this timeless artistic tradition.
